Vietnam
From September 19-23, delegations from Mars, Inc., visited SUCCESS Alliance Vietnam cocoa project areas. The team included: Board Director Linda Mars, Head of Plant Breeding Howard Shapiro, and Global Sustainability Director Joseph Toledano. The team met with representatives from the Provincial People’s Committee and visited multiple sites, including cocoa farms and fermentaries in Ben Tre and Tien Giang provinces where the SUCCESS Alliance was active from 2004-2007. The group and ACDI/VOCA Chief of Party Dinh Hai Lam also met with representatives of USAID, the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, the U.S. Embassy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, UTZ Certified Foundation and the Dutch Embassy.

Ecuador
On September 5th, ACDI/VOCA participated in a Cacao ExpoFair organized by the smallholder farmer association in Las Piedras community. Over 500 people enjoyed local foods, music, stands with cocoa desserts, folk dancing and a tour of a cocoa farm exhibiting the benefits of adopting ACDI/VOCA farming techniques.
Liberia
The Livelihood Improvement for Farming Enterprises (LIFE) program recently facilitated a workshop on warehouse receipts program management. Thirty-five business managers, warehouse supervisors and warehouse clerks from the 10 project-sponsored farmers' associations participated in the workshop. It covered the logistics of cocoa quality control/grading and receipts and advance system.

Philippines
On Sept. 25, ACDI/VOCA Chief of Party Nic Richards met with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) to discuss possible collaboration with ACIAR’s partner in-country, the Landcare Foundation of the Philippines, through COCOPAL.
